My IIT JEE Notes and Books

Update: Before you read this post, please note that this was written in the year 2004. I don’t have any notes with me anymore. I appreciate your enthusiasm expressed through your comments asking for these notes. I am sorry I am unable to provide anything of help to you, though, you have my best wishes and I hope you “crack” it.

I was cleaning out my old stuff and was going through the various books gathering dust. There’s a huge pile of my “I.I.T.” books. Yeah, like most students of Science, I had studied for the IIT JEE (Joint Entrance Exam). I had joined coaching-classes which lasted throughout my junior college.

Chinmay Naralkar, Sudarshan K & me attended those classes with great zeal and enthusiasm. Anyone who has done a professional course like Engineering or Medicine would know how these things influence our minds and our sense of humour. A wierd sadistic intellectualism sets up in our jokes and other methods of beating the boredome.

Our lectures used to be 5 hours continuous at times, and it was impossible to concentrate completely for the entire duration, especially since you were attending regular college in the day. I rememberd that we used to sit and translate popular songs into Sanskrit for passing the time.

Now, as I was going through my notes of those years that I had dutifully written down, I found those pearls in Sanskrit jotted down by my pen on the last pages of some of those books.

I will scan them and put them up here in the next few days. It’s a wierd sense of nostalgia I felt when I ran my finger over those pages. I could almost feel myself in those classrooms where concentrated knowledge was imparted to the minds to build them into what we are today.

I didn’t clear the JEE, and I didn’t try again next year. My purpose had been served. I still remember almost everything I learnt in those 2 years, and that knowledge helped me put my future learnings into proper perspective.

My IIT classes in Junior College changed me forever.

    I am a keen aspirant of IITJEE and am quite excited about my exams. I have researched a lot on the possible ways of preparation. I have found sum websites for Online IITJEE Preparation, askiitians and 100 Percentile seem to be good options. I took a few trial pratice test at http://www.100percentile.com/iitjee/home.jsp and found it to be better than the rest. so pls suggest me should I buy 100percentiles online test series? pls help

    Just came upon your blog while searching for JEE prep (online) materials for one of my friends in India..Am not sure, but I think you would want to add Brilliant Tutorials (don’t know whether it still exists or not) to the list. It was one of the best books for comprehensive IIT preparation and many people still might have it. Also I.E.Irodov’s “Problems in Physics” was an excellent book..
